The Ponderosa is the most widely distributed tree in the western United States and southern
portion of British Columbia. The cones are oval in shape and are generally 3 to 6 inches long
with sharp scales making it 'prickly', hence the nickname "Prickly Ponderosa".
There are two of these big trees in my front yard, with an abundance of pine cones. I love
the smell of pine! I find myself looking at them every time I go outside and have started collecting
a few for inside the house. It's no surprise that they ended up being the subject of one of my drawings!
