Giraffes! These long necked gentle giants are such beautiful creatures! A newborn baby is between
five and six feet tall (just tall enough to nurse from its mother) and weighs between 120-150 pounds at
birth. Giraffes are native to the savanna (grasslands) of Africa, where even newborns must be able to
elude hungry predators. Therefore, standing and walking are important first milestones for calves which
is usually achieved within one hour of birth. I was lucky enough to witness this tender moment between
a mom and her baby! This giraffe pencil drawing was probably one of the most enjoyable drawings that I've done.
